Production

How a Snapware container is made.

Four stages, from the lid mould to the leak test. Nothing exotic, everything checked.

Snapware production: the lid comes first
1

The lid comes first

Every Snapware container is designed around its lid rather than the other way round. The four latches, the hinge pins and the silicone gasket channel are moulded as one system. That is the reason a lid from one production year still snaps onto a base from another.

The gasket is seated by machine and checked by hand. It is the part doing the sealing; the latches only hold it in compression.

Snapware production: glass from the pyrex line
2

Glass from the Pyrex line

The glass vessels come out of the same tempered-glass production used for Pyrex bakeware: soda-lime glass, heat-strengthened so it tolerates the oven, the freezer and the dishwasher without shocking.

Tempering is also a safety property. If a vessel ever does break, it granulates instead of splintering.

Snapware production: plastic that keeps its shape
3

Plastic that keeps its shape

The plastic line is moulded from BPA-free polypropylene, chosen because it shrugs off the microwave and the top rack of the dishwasher without clouding or warping.

Walls are ribbed at the corners, which is what lets a full container be carried by its lid without flexing the seal open.

Snapware production: tested the boring way
4

Tested the boring way

Batches are pulled and tested on the things that actually fail in a kitchen: latch cycles, drop tests with a full load, dishwasher cycles run back to back, and a dye-water leak test lying on each side.

A production run ships when the test batch passes all of it. That is the whole secret to a lid that still snaps five years in.

Since 1994

Thirty years of the same click.

The short version of how a California lid idea ended up in half the fridges on the street.

1994

A lid that snaps

Snapware starts in California with one idea: a plastic snap-top lid that seals tight enough to trust with liquids. The click becomes the brand.

2000s

Snap 'N Stack

The stacking carriers arrive: layered totes for eggs, cupcakes and craft gear that latch to each other and travel as one.

2010s

Total Solution, with Pyrex glass

Snapware joins the Corelle Brands family alongside Pyrex and Corningware. The four-latch lid meets tempered Pyrex glass, and the Total Solution line becomes the flagship.

2019

Instant Brands

Corelle Brands merges with the maker of Instant Pot. Snapware sits in a portfolio built entirely around the practical kitchen.

The latches are the whole story. My toddler has thrown a full container of soup off the table and the floor stayed clean.

Amanda K.
Plastic Total Solution · 14-pack

I bake straight in the glass one, latch the lid when it cools, and the casserole rides to my sister’s without a drip.

Robert M.
Glass Total Solution · 4-cup

Twenty-four deviled eggs arrived at the potluck standing up. The egg carrier alone is worth the brand.

Gloria T.
Snap 'N Stack egg carrier

Cereal actually stays crisp in the dispensers, and the flip top pours one-handed. Wish I had bought them years ago.
